Classic Aero-TV: Upgrading and Innovating – Developing The Rotax 912iS

From 2013 (YouTube Version): A Thoroughly Modern Engine For The Next Generation SportPlane

Aviation has been dealing with a number of problems over the last few decades... one of which is the utter lack of progress and innovation we've seen in way too many segments of the aviation business.

SO... when a truly new and innovative powerplant hits the market, that's HUGE news... as is the process by which that engine got into the this new generation of sport aircraft.

The Rotax 912 iS engine delivers 38% to 70% better fuel efficiency than comparable competitive engines in the light sport, ultra-light aircraft and the general aviation industry. Enhancements include a modern fuel injection system and digital engine control unit (ECU) in order ensure optimal fuel and air mixture at any altitude for longer flight range, lower operating costs and CO2 emission reduction. The new Rotax 912 iS engine also provides a time of 2,000 hours between overhauls (TBO); the same TBO as the 912 engine.

With more than 170,000 Rotax aircraft engines sold in almost 40 years, Rotax Aircraft Engines dominate the light sport and ultra-light aircraft market. With 20 authorized distributors and a network of more than 200 sales and repair centers supporting customers worldwide, BRP supplies engines to more than 80% of all aircraft manufacturers in its segment.
