Mission Accomplished: Pilatus 75th Anniversary Flight Touches Down

San Diego, California, to Quito, Ecuador Flight Touches Down On Schedule

The Pilatus PC-12 of Ambassador Theodore Gildred and the crew of Ecuador III, touched down in Quito, Ecuador, on March 31, 2006, on schedule and 75 years to the day from when his father landed in the same spot in 1931 flying a Ryan Brougham.

Accompanying Ambassador Gildred on this historic mission of goodwill were his sons, Ted III and Stephen, and Erik Lindbergh, grandson of Charles Lindbergh, who inspired the original mission to Ecuador 75 years earlier.

The trip covered a distance of 4,200 miles and took seven days, as the Ambassador and his team visited officials in major cities throughout Latin America to commemorate the original flight and rekindle the spirit of goodwill that served as its mission.

Ambassador Gildred flew his own PC-12 for Ecuador III, and it was accompanied by a second PC-12 provided by Pilatus Business Aircraft and their distributor, Aviation Sales Inc.
