Breastfeeding Passenger Settles With Three Airlines

Woman Had Been Asked To Get Off An Airliner For Feeding Her Daughter

A woman who says she was kicked off a Delta Connections flight in 2006 because she was breastfeeding her year-old child has settled with the three airlines involved in the case.

The Associated Press reports that Emily Gillette of Santa Fe, NM refused to cover herself with a blanket while breastfeeding her daughter waiting for her Delta Connection flight to depart. Her subsequent removal from the flight resulted in a series of "nurse-ins" at 19 airports in November of that year.

Gillette's attorney did not disclose the amount of the settlement with Delta Airlines, Freedom Airlines, and Mesa Air Group. She had sought both punitive and compensatory damages. A copy of the settlement agreement which appeared in the Burlington, VT, Free Press redacted the amount.
