Medical Helicopter Damaged In Hard Landing

Incident Force Temporary Shutdown Of Hospital Helipad

The helipad at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, TN was temporarily shut down earlier this week after a medical helicopter was damaged during a hard landing at the facility.

Television station WREG reports that the incident occurred at about 1400 local time Sunday. The aircraft belongs to Air Evac of Jackson, TN, and was delivering a patient to the hospital. There were also two crew members on board the aircraft, but no one sustained any injuries as a result of the incident.

According to Air Evac, the pilot initially landed fine, but then the aircraft became airborne again for some reason, and the aircraft came down hard from about five feet above the helipad, damaging the landing skids on the helo. The company removed the aircraft from the helipad on Monday.

A Regional One spokeswoman said that aircraft landed on the street near the hospital while the helipad was closed.
