Avolon Places 90-Aircraft Order With Airbus

Mix Of A321neo And A330neo Airliners

Avolon, a global aviation finance company based in Ireland, announced it has ordered 90 aircraft from Airbus including 75 A321neos and 15 A330neos. The order raises Avolon’s commitments to 413 Airbuses with this latest batch slated to be delivered into 2033.

Avolon’s Airbus orders consist entirely of the A320neo family and A330neo new technology aircraft. This order also includes the right to purchase a further 25 A321neo and an additional 15 A330neo aircraft.

Currently, Avolon has taken delivery of 145 A320neo family aircraft with commitments for 358 more aircraft including this order. The A320neo aircraft burn 20% less fuel with 20% less CO2 emissions and about 50% less noise than the previous generation of single-aisle airliners. The A321neo can transport up to 244 passengers to a range of 7,400 km / 4,000 nm.

In 2014, Avolon was a launch customer for the A330neo program and currently has 33 of the widebodies in its fleet. This order brings Avolon’s order book to 55 A330neos. The aircraft has a range of over 13,300 km / 7,180 nm.

Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon said, “This order demonstrates our strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. Our scale and balance sheet position us to support our airline customers’ expansion and replacement needs into the next decade. Both the A321neo and A330neo are in high demand, and we expect this to continue given the long-term growth trajectory for the aviation sector. We are delighted to be expanding and extending our long-term partnership with Airbus with this order.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales of the Commercial Aircraft for Airbus said, “Lessors are excellent barometers of the aircraft market, and we are grateful to Avolon for expanding its commitment for the A320 Family and A330neo, so soon after an earlier order two years ago.

“This endorsement illustrates the strong attractiveness to a wide variety of customers of these two aircraft, the most efficient in their category with the latest technologies embedded, covering the market space from domestic to regional to long haul routes. We value this partnership which has helped open new markets and broaden the customer base for both aircraft types.”
