Summerville, SC Makes Flowertown Festival A UAV No-Fly Zone

Violation Could Land UAV Operator In Jail

The town of Summerville, SC has declared its annual Flowertown Festival a no-fly zone for UAVs.

A notice posted at the festival site says that the Police Chief, at the direction of the Mayor/Acting town administrator, "has issued a rule for the 2015 Flowertown Festival" that deems the use of "UAV/Model indoor/outdoor radio controlled aircraft are a potential risk to public safety and property, thus use of such said radio controlled aircraft is prohibited."

As of Thursday at 0800 EDT, the festival grounds were off limits to UAVs until Sunday at 2000 hours.

"Violation of these rules and regulations adopted and posted pursuant to this section shall be punishable by imprisonment for a period not exceeding 30 days, or a fine not exceeding $500.00," the notice says.

So if you were planning to fly your quadcopter over the Flowertown Festival ... it would seem that is not a very good idea.
