FAA Grants STC For New Fairchild Aircraft Prop

MT-Propeller MTV-27 5-blade Propeller Approved For Metro III And Merlin IVC Commuter Airliners

The FAA has granted an STC to MT-Propeller Entwicklung GmbH for installation of its next generation 5-blade scimitar composite propeller MTV-27-1-E-C-F-R(G)/CFRL250-103 on Fairchild Metro III and Merlin IVC aircraft with engines TPE331-11U-601G, -611G, TPE331-11U-602G, -612G. The FAA STC follows a similar approval from EASA.

MT-Propeller Composite Prop

MT-Propeller says the new prop provides improved performance, maximum durability and reliability, suitable for any weather conditions. In a news release, they indicate that the installation does not require any engine modifications (no cam or beta tube change), reduces the weight by about 65 pounds compared to the original metal propellers, and gives more ground clearance for fewer FODs. They say groundroll is reduced by about 165 feet, and the obstacle clearance take-off distance is shortened by 260 feet.

Other features of the new prop include:
Vibration damping characteristics for almost vibration free propeller operation.
Has bonded on stainless steel leading edges for best erosion protection of the blades.
Easier engine start with lower ITTs for reduced hot start possibilities.
Significant cabin noise and vibration reduction.

MT Propeller says the high technology natural composite blades have no life limitation and can be repaired even in case of a FOD.
