Classic Aero-TV: Granley Family Airshows – Ross Granley, Sharing the Legacy

From 2009 (YouTube Version): Son Ross Granley Describes Passion for Sharing Aviation with the World

Ross Granley grew up on the air show circuit; his father, Bud Granley, flew for 47 years as an aerobatic pilot before starting his own company, “Granley Family Airshows.”

Be it helping his father navigate to events, or watching his father perform, Ross’s enthusiasm for aviation began at an early age.  Eventually, his passion led him to join the Royal Canadian Air Force, following in his father’s footsteps.

Captain Ross Granley’s first taste of performance came while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 431 Air Demonstration Squadron.  Commonly known as the Snowbirds, the 431 Air Squadron travels the air show circuit presenting formation demonstrations in CT-114 Tutors.

Ross Granley’s participation allowed him to take his passion one step further by acting as an ambassador not only for the Canadian Air Force, but also for the aviation community at large.

After serving the RCAF for twelve years, Ross Granley became a pilot for United Airlines.  His ability, however, to inspire and connect with young aviation enthusiasts led Granley to join his father on the air show circuit.

Performing alongside Bud Granley’s Yak-55, Ross flies a Yak-18 in stunning aerobatic formations that have dazzled air show crowds across the country.
