Eight Recovered After Navy C-2 COD Goes Down In The Pacific

Aircraft Was En Route To The USS Ronald Reagan

A U.S. Navy C-2 Greyhound airplane ... known as a COD for Carrier Onboard Delivery ... went gone down in the Pacific Wednesday while en route to the USS Ronald Reagan. There were 11 people on board the aircraft, according to the Navy. Eight of those were rescued and transported to the carrier where they received medical attention.

The Navy Times reports that three of those on board are still missing.

The aircraft was carrying out a routine transport mission with passengers and cargo from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to the carrier, which is taking part in an exercise with the Japanese military.

A Japanese Defense Ministry Spokesman sad that according to Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera, the C-2 went down about 90 miles west of of the Japanese Atoll of Okinotorishima at about 1445 local time.
