Steadicopter Develops Hazmat Courier Version of Black Eagle

Container Design Allows Cargo Delivery Missions for Critical, Dangerous, and Vital Materials by Uncrewed Rotary Aircraft

Steadicopter joined UK-Based Vikini Drone Packaging to launch a collaboration to transport and deliver hazardous materials via uncrewed aircraft.

The match was a natural one, leveraging Steadicopter's Black Eagle rotary wing UAV along with Viking's expertise in durable, secure container systems. The end result will see the Black Eagle 50 E equipped with a multi-function payload container capable of delivering dangerous goods from one destination to another with minimal concern. The new capability adds another function to an aircraft that may sometimes seen as primarily an ISR bird, given the usual complement of sensors and survey equipment commonly seen. The new capability is good news for owners and operators. After all, has anyone ever complained about added capability for any aircraft?

Viking Drone Packaging designed the cargo container with as wide an envelope as possible within the Black Eagle's footprint, allowing customers maximum freedom in payload selection and stowage. The UAV already boasts one of the better, more mature options for those shopping around for uncrewed helicopter aircraft, and the addition of 'cargo courier' is certainly a draw for anyone trying to have one "do-all" drone in the inventory. The Black Eagle 50 E has already seen a flurry of testing among enterprise and military users in recent months as the nascent industry establishes the capabilities of the quickly advancing UAV market. Users have been pushing the limits of the Steadicopter product and breaking ground in just what a high-performance drone is capable of, from seafaring naval ISR to mobile weapons platform. Now, with Viking's assistance, another utility can be added to the Black Eagle's resumé as a hazardous material courier.

“Through this collaboration with Viking Drones, Steadicopter is expanding the variety of services it offers to its diverse customers worldwide,” said Noam Lidor, vice president of sales & business development at Steadicopter. “The Black Eagle family of rotary unmanned aerial vehicles enables users to perform high-end ISR missions with a large selection of sensors. With this new development, users now have the option to utilize the system's flight characteristics and capabilities to perform much-needed cargo operations - whether last mile, offshore, rural territories and more.”

Viking Drone Packaging co-founder Anthony Venetz was just as excited for the project, saying “We are delighted to announce the collaboration between Viking Drone Packaging and Steadicopter in the design and production of an aerodynamic, multi-function payload container that is optimized to the specifications of their aircraft. Its robust yet lightweight construction, combined with Viking’s patented packaging materials, provides a crash-protected solution that enables the transportation of dangerous goods and precious cargo, along with a host of other use cases.”
