Taylor Aerocar For Sale

Vintage Rodable Aircraft Can Be Yours For $1.25 Million

If you've ever wanted to own a piece of aviation history ... and you've got over a million dollars burning a hole in your wallet, you could be the proud new owner of a 1954 Aerocar, N-101D. The roadable aircraft was one of only five produced back in the 1950s.

The current owner os Greg Herrick, who the blog ubergizmo reports is an avid aviation collector with nearly 40 aircraft. The Taylor was the first aircraft he acquired for his collection.

Unlike today's roadables, like the Terrefugia which folds its wings towards the fuselage of the car, the Taylor's design was a trailer carrying the wings, tail, and pusher prop which could be detached from the car for around-town driving. While the conversion to an airplane looks kind of complicated, it was originally marketed so that a it could be done by a woman "without soiling her gloves."

Rotation speed on the Aerocar is 55 mph, and it claims a 100 mph cruising speed. The steering wheel becomes the control yoke when the vehicle is in airplane mode. The piece of aviation history can be yours for the low-low price of $1.25 million.
