WestJet Pilots' Association 'Disappointed' In Changes To Canadian Aviation Regs

Says Work On Fatigue Rules Needs To Continue

The WestJet Pilots' Association (WJPA) is disappointed that only five recommendations out of approximately 50 recommendations to Transport Canada were published as a Notice of Intent (NOI) only in Canada Gazette Part 1 on August 8, 2015.

Since 2010, the Flight Crew Fatigue Management Working Group, which included representatives from the WJPA, worked to align the Canadian flight and duty time limitations with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

The WJPA supports the Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA) brought forward by the working group in its entirety and will fully support its implementation to all pilots in Canada in a timely fashion.

"The WJPA will continue to advocate on behalf of its members, and all pilots in Canada, for enhanced flight time and flight duty time limitations that effectively reduce fatigue levels and continue to improve the safety of aviation in Canada," said Michael Wesolowski and Paul Ysselmuiden, co-chairs of the WJPA.
