NATA Concerned Over Fate Of FAA Reauthorization

Encourages Members To Contact Their Senators

NATA President James K. Coyne is expressing "deep concern" over the future of the FAA reauthorization bill that is now being held up in the U.S. Senate.  The bill, which was approved by the House of Representatives two weeks ago, has been held from Floor consideration in the Senate due to continued concerns about the future privatization of the air traffic control system.

"While we understand that there are concerns about air traffic control privatization, this is but one small issue in a bill that covers the entire aviation industry, not just one segment," Coyne stated. "To have the measure halted because of politics when so much is at stake is truly remarkable."

In a letter to NATA, Representative John Mica, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, urged the association's members to contact their U.S. Senators and ask that they support this critical legislation.

"It is important that you [NATA's members] assist in making members of the Senate aware of the importance of passing this measure," Mica stated.

"NATA will continue to make passage of this critical legislation its number one priority," Coyne concluded.  "And we hope these efforts, along with those of the rest of the industry, will ensure its passage and make for a festive holiday season, not one where we end up with coal in our stocking."
