Will Power The Carrier's A320neo Aircraft
Qingdao Airlines has selected the technologically advanced Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine to power its order of 18 firm Airbus A320neo family aircraft.
"Pratt & Whitney's PurePower engine creates the cleaner, greener and quieter flight experience we are looking for our passengers. We're glad to deploy this next generation engine to power our success in the increasingly competitive airline market in China," said Tang Huanguang, chairman, Qingdao Airlines.
The PurePower engine family's in-service performance has confirmed that the engine reduces fuel burn by 16 percent, lowers regulated emissions by 50 percent and reduces the noise footprint by 75 percent. The GTF engine currently powers 24 aircraft with eight airlines around the world.
"We thank Qingdao Airlines for choosing our ground-breaking Geared Turbofan engine," said Rick Deurloo, senior vice president, Commercial Engine Sales, Marketing & Customer Support, Pratt & Whitney. "We're providing more than just an engine; we're transforming aviation and leading a new era amidst one of the most exciting chapters in our history."
The PurePower Geared Turbofan Engine family has more than 8,400 orders, including announced and unannounced firm and option engines, with more than 80 customers from more than 30 countries. GTF engines have earned more than 30,000 revenue hours and more than 20,000 take-offs and landings.
Qingdao Airlines is headquartered in Qingdao, China.
