MT-Propeller Obtains PA-60 STC

German-Made 4-Blade Composite Prop for the Piper Aerostar

MT Propeller Entwicklung GmbH has received FAA STC approval for the 4-blade composite scimitar propeller when installed on the Aerostar PA-60 series of aircraft powered by Lycoming IO-540. Their MT-Propeller composite blades are said to reduce noise both inside and outside the aircraft, have no life limitation, and are repairable should they incur FOD damage during the course of flight.

Increasingly becoming a popular factory selection throughout Europe for their smoother, trouble-free running, the German product has the honor of having 0 active ADs on any product. Their propellers consist of a composite interior bonded to a wide, protective stainless steel leading edge for enhanced erosion prevention. While specific measurements can vary between models, improvements abound over an equivalent stock metal propeller. The average weight saved can be 12% lower on a typical 5-bladed, 88.5" example. The MT also boasts a 30% lower polar moment of inertia, 45% greater vibration dampening coefficient, and an unlimited service life. For long-lived aircraft, their propellers offer a strong case for continued use, returning to original dimensions when overhauled, unlike a traditionally dressed metallic prop.

The approval brings MT-Propeller's portfolio up to 30 certified models ranging from 2 blade to 7 blades, fixed to variable pitch, for aircraft with 150 and 5000 horsepower. Their lightweight, high performance props have seen service in aircraft, airships, wind tunnels, and hovercraft, and can be found on motor gliders and airliners. MT provides much of their output as an OEM supplier for more than 90% of the European Aircraft Industry, and 30% of the domestic American production. Their products boast the highest time between overhaul at 4500 hours of operation or up to 6 years after installation. For dedicated, company approved support, any one of their 62 service centers can be consulted for the perfect fit for any aircraft.
