FedEx Fleet Upgrade To Include Boeing 777 Freighters

Company Has Reportedly Ordered 16 Of The Aircraft

FedEx Corp. has reportedly agreed to purchase 16 Boeing 777 freighters as part of a fleet modernization program. At list prices, the airplanes would cost the shipping company about $5 billion.

The Memphis Business Journal reports that FedEx has not announced the purchase, it is committed to buying 16 of the airplanes from Boeing, as reported in the company's 2015 Annual Report published in August.

In July, FedEx said that it would be purchasing as many as 50 additional 767 freighters from Boeing. There had been speculation about the 777 order at that time as well.

Deliveries of the new FedEx 777s are expected to begin in 2020, with three airplanes delivered that year and three more in 2021.
