Disney Testing SUV-Sized X-Wing Drones

But The Public May Never See The Aircraft

Disney is reportedly testing a pair of X-Wing drones ... but not the $35 toys you might find available for the holidays.

Blogmickey reports that these aircraft are the size of SUVs and the aircraft are likely to fly over the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attraction.

But it is unlikely that the public will ever see the drones, other than in media reports. They will be featured at an exclusive media event for the opening of the attraction at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL in early December.

Disney was granted a waiver to fly small drones over the park in November, 2016. But that authorization did not include aircraft the size of cars. The blog also reports that there is no infrastructure being established to support ongoing operations of the drones.

They are impressive, though. You'll have to click on the FMI link below to see the photos. The blog reports that it is possible that Disney might work the drones into the "Skymosphere" at some point in the future, but based on past media opening events, that is something of a long shot.
