No Drone Flights To Be Allowed Within 30 NM Of NRG Stadium Sunday

Questions Raised About The Necessity For Such A Broad Ban

The TFR that will be in place Sunday around NRG Stadium in Houston extends out 30 nautical miles from the site where the Super Bowl will be played. And that means no one can fly a drone anywhere inside that circle ... not even in your own backyard.

And that's "ridiculous", according to Forbes contributor John Goglia.

While Goglia agrees that drone flights around the stadium should be prohibited, the limited range of consumer-grade, and most professional-grade aircraft makes the 30 NM restriction overkill. Most hobbyist drones have a battery life of under 10 minutes. And even the highest-end models can only stay airborne for about 25 minutes.

Goglia says that the FAA could easily tailor flight restrictions such as the one for the Super Bowl to prevent flights around the stadium without turning hobbyists flying drones in their backyards into criminals.

We wholeheartedly agree.
