The first commercial aircraft to be developed in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union completed its first flight on Sunday. The MC-21-300 took off from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant and flew for about 30 minutes at an altitude of about 3,300 feet and speeds of up to 162 knots.

The flight plan included checking of in-flight stability and controllability, and also the controllability of the power plant. According to the program, during the flight a simulated landing approach was performed, followed by a flight over the runway, climbing and turning. This technique is typical for the maiden flight of new types of aircraft. The pilot of the last airworthy Sea Vixen aircraft was forced to make a gear-up landing following a performance at the Duxford Air Show. Navy Wings, the nonprofit which operates the airplane, said, "Following the Sea Vixen’s successful display closing the show at Duxford Air Show, upon her return the Sea Vixen suffered hydraulic problems and the Pilot Cdr Simon Hargreaves performed a highly controlled wheels up landing at RNAS Yeovilton. Pilot is safe and well. Post accident processes are currently being carried out." More than 100 women pilots will take off on the adventure of a lifetime at the start of the 41st annual Air Race Classic. Fifty-two teams will depart Frederick, MD, on June 20 for four-day cross-country race. Aviation celebrities Debby Rihn-Harvey and Ariel Tweto take their place in 2017 field. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
