Transponder Malfunction Deemed Security Threat

When President Bush visited Milwaukee (WI) Friday, there was the usual 30 mile exclusion zone. And one GA pilot found that out the hard way.

The aircraft in question, A Cessna 210, reportedly entered the restricted airspace while its transponder was malfunctioning. “Instead of taking any chances, the Air Force decided to intercept,” said Keith Markano, manager of the Waukesha County Airport about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. That's where the C-210 landed after it was intercepted by the warplanes.

Marko said the Cessna was on a flight from Terre Haute (IN). He didn't know where it was going.
