It Just Wouldn't Have Been Thanksgiving Without A Snowstorm...

Winter WX Blamed For Holiday Travel Delays

To paraphrase a classic, the weather outside IS frightful for much of the Midwest... and that, of course, meant flight delays throughout the air traffic system as a major snowstorm crossed the Plains states this weekend. The early winter storm -- stretching from the Texas panhandle to South Dakota -- caused holiday travelers trying to get back home after the four-day weekend significant delays... and even more grief.

Travelers looking for flights into the center of the continental US were greeted by delays of two hours or more, as snow, rain, and low ceilings blanketed airports stretching from Chicago to Atlanta, from Denver to Salina, KS.

"I've seen delays to Atlanta and Chicago, all weather-related," said San Francisco International Airport spokesman Mike McCarron to USA Today, adding the airport was expecting 25,000 more passengers through its gates than on a normal weekend.

Felicia Browder, spokeswoman for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said the weather, "coupled with the fact that this was the last day of the heavy travel period for Thanksgiving," had made travel into and out of the major southern hub difficult.

The heavy winter weather continued to move east across the Great Lakes region Tuesday, which means more delays and cancellations are probably on the horizon.

But, as long as the fire inside's delightful, right?
