Freefly Systems Alta X Now DIU Approved

Drone Makes its Way on the Blue UAS Roster

Freefly Systems has received the honor of their Alta X UAS being added to the Defense Innovation Unit approved aircraft list.

The DIU's placement of the drone onto its roster of approved equipment, the Blue sUAS 2.0 list contains trusted small drones suited for use by Department of Defense entities. The Freefly Alta X went through the Blue UAS on-ramp to prove that it is policy compliant and  a viable option for those wanting a small commercial drone.

The Alta X is the 6th generation of the series, built on an open architecture that allows up to 35 pounds of usable payload capacity. Built to accommodate a variety of integrated sensors and third party payloads, Freefly brags that the Alta can be used as an aerial station for gimbaled EO/IR, survey grade RTK/PPK mapping cameras, LiDAR, hyperspectral sensors, and suitably sized drop or delivery capabilities. Its small, folding, deployable frame makes it a man-portable, packable, and quick platform to get into action as soon as desired.

The Blue UAS List indicates that the drone is a trusted platform, suited to use by the Department of Defense or other federal partners. Uses vary greatly, from the usual duties of infrastructure inspection, mapping, public safety, or survey as often used in civil service. The list ensures that “drones are section 848 FY20 NDAA compliant, validated as cyber-secure and safe to fly, and are available for government purchase and operation.”
