NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum Readies for AirFest 2023

Annual Aeronautical Extravaganza Runs 01-04 September

Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum will host its popular annual AirFest event from 01 through 04 September 2023.

Located inside a 92,000-square-foot WWII-era wooden hangar on Cape May, New Jersey’s Cape May County Airport (WWD), the Museum boasts an impressive collection of WWII military aircraft, as well as warplanes representative of the Korean, Vietnam, Cold War, and post-Cold War eras.

Attendees of the AirFest celebration can look forward to aircraft and aerial displays, reenactments, live music, classic cars, face painting, caricatures, vendors, exhibitors, food, beer, and more, the four-day hootenanny is the museum’s largest yearly fundraiser.

Among the historically-significant aircraft to be showcased at 2023’s AirFest are the P-40 Warhawk American Dream, an F4F Wildcat, a TBM Avenger, a North American SNJ-4 (AT-6), a DC-3, and the C53 Skytrooper Beach City Baby.

Another event highlight is the American Historical Theater and the engaging and educational performances staged therein. Performed each day of the event at 11:00 EDT, subject performances bring historical figures and events to dynamic and compelling life. Audiences will encounter the effigies of Amelia Earhart, Bessie Coleman, a Harvey Girl, and Rosie the Riveter.

As part of the festivities, the U.S. Air Force’s 177th Fighter Wing will make a flyover on Friday, 01 September. The following day will see a fly-in of historic aircraft belonging to the Aero Club of Pennsylvania. On Sunday, 03 September, event attendees will have opportunity to meet Tuskegee Airman Dr. Eugene Richardson.

Also on hand will be helicopters and air-crews representing organizations the likes of the New Jersey State Police, AtlantiCare MedEvac, Cape May County Mosquito Commission, the United States Coast Guard, and the USAF’s 621st  Contingency Response Wing.

Admission to AirFest 2023 is $18 for adults and $14 for children aged three through 12. Members, children aged three and under, as well as active-duty military personnel, enjoy free admission.
