Two-Place Messerschmitt Bf-109 To Fly 'Soon'

Restored And Modified Airplane Rolled Out At Hangar 10 In Germany

A restored and modified Messerschmitt Bf-109 G-12 with two seats has been rolled out at Hangar 10 on the Baltic Island of Usedom.

The aircraft began life as a post-war Spanish-built Bf-109 that served with the Spanish Air Force. Warbird News reports that the aircraft made an appearance in the movie "Battle of Britain", and was later shipped to the United States where it became part of the Commemorative Air Force ... then known as the Confederate Air Force.

It suffered a ground loop in 1976, and was stored by the CAF for a decade before being sold to Harold Kindsvater in 1987.

Kindsvater restored the airplane and it flew again for the first time in 2000. He sold it in 2009, and it went back across the Atlantic to Germany, where if flew for the first time in Europe alongside a FW 190 A8/M at the air show in Breitscheid, Germany.

The airplane was damaged again in an accident after landing in 2013, when it tipped over on its nose on a grass runway at Heringsdorf.

Hangar 10 acquired the airplane, and used the opportunity to recreate a stock Messerschmitt G-12 two-seat fighter/trainer, with the conversion completed by Meier Motors. It will be used to train pilots and give flight experiences as part of the Flight Academy fleet.

The first engine runs are now complete, and the airplane is expected to fly again in the very near future.
