FAA Prepares For Audit Of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Finances

Has Subpoenaed Invoices Paid From Airport Funds

In preparation for an in-depth audio of alleged financial improprieties at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the FAA has subpoenaed "any and all unredacted legal invoices paid using revenue or funds" from the airport or any other airport account from October 2012 to September 2018.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the audit in addition to a broader investigation that is already underway looking into allegations that the city of Atlanta used millions from airport accounts to pay legal fees connected to grand jury subpoenas in a corruption investigation of City Hall. That probe was initiated following an investigative report published by the paper.

The FAA had initially planned to conduct a review of the airport's financial records for that period last week, but extended the deadline for the records pertaining to the city hall investigation until May 1. Hartsfield-Jackson is one of several airports that have been selected for a financial compliance review. Such audits were first conducted in 2005, and this is the first time Hartsfield-Jackson has been on the list.

The FAA plans to meet with several Hartsfield-Jackson officials as part of the audit.
