Cessna Leader Takes Medical Leave

No Indication When Charlie Johnson Will Return To Work

Charlie Johnson, who took over as head of Cessna Aircraft in Wichita last March, is leaving the company on a medical leave.

"We do not know how long the leave of absence will be," says Cessna spokeswoman Jessica Myers. The Wichita Business Journal reports Cessna's Senior VP of Product Engineering, Jack Pelton, will sit at Johnson's desk temporarily.

Johnson was a combat pilot for the Air Force in Vietnam. He joined Cessna in 1979 as manager of production testing. Johnson was named president and chief operating officer in 1997.

He succeeded long-time President Russ Meyer last March.

Pelton came on board at Cessna in November 2000 after stints with Fairchild, Dornier, Allied Signal and McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing).

Cessna gave no indication as to the reason for Johnson's medical leave.
