Chalk Up Another 43 Sales For Airbus

Indian Airlines Will Spend More Than $2 Billion To Replace Fleet

In the ongoing sales war between Airbus and Boeing, chalk up a big one for the Europeans.

India's government owned carrier, Indian Airlines, says it will buy 43 aircraft from Airbus worth almost $2 billion. The deal was approved by India's Public Investment Board last week, but still has to be okayed by the Indian cabinet, according to local news reports.

Indian Airlines flies domestic routes and to neighboring countries. The 43 aircraft deal will be the company's first fleet acquisitions in 15 years.

The Hindustan Times reports Boeing was indeed in on the bidding, but that Airbus beat the US aerospace giant on price.
