Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2009 Redux: Looking Back At Day One

Let's Revisit Aero-TV’s Daily Update From EAA AirVenture Oshkosh for Monday, July 27th, 2009.

As we evaluate the highs and lows of Oshkosh 2009 in our Annual Five Part "Best/Worst" look at the yearly Oshkosh Aero-Lovefest, it  behooves us to take a look at what all the fuss was about via each of the Daily Updates that Aero-TV produced during the show... along with dozens of other feature presentations. -- Jim Campbell, ANN Editor-In-Chief

Monday was the AirVenture’s official opening day. As is tradition, Tom Poberezny, the president of the experimental aircraft association, took the time to welcome media to the event.

Positive growth was evident throughout the news of the day. Cirrus Aircraft co-founder and vice chairman Dale Klapmeier sat down with Aero-TV to give us an update on the long-awaited company rebound after a year of poor economic downturn.

Continuing the atmosphere of rebound, Piper announced its addition of the Garmin G600 glass avionics suite to its primary trainers, its twin-engine aircraft, and the newly revamped Piper Archer that will come to market next year.

Despite questionable weather, Monday featured several exciting aircraft arrivals. Though the event needed no more water, the Erickson S-64F Aircrane Helitanker, called “Elvis,” arrived with an exciting firebombing demonstration for crowds.

Crowds also enjoyed the futuristic ICON A5, as well as the exciting debut of the Virgin Galactic Mothership “Eve,” at the afternoon showcase. Sir Richard Branson had these words to say about his arrival at AirVenture 2009.

Join us again as our next update Aero-TV Daily Update from EAA AirVenture Oshkosh covers the thrilling demonstration flights of both the Virgin Galactic Mothership “Eve” and the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger airliner.
