Red Cat Integrates Remote ID to Teal 2 Military UAV

Integrated System “Outranges”, “Outpaces” Competing UAVs with Improved Network Coverage

Red Cat Holdings has sharpened their “military-grade sUAS” with the receipt of remote ID certification from the FAA.

The addition of a legally mandated drone capability doesn’t quite represent a groundbreaking, game-changing shift in the light UAV market, but Red Cat was proud of their integrated Remote ID syste, saying it “ goes above and beyond the technology being used in competing drones.” The system sits neatly inside the Teal 2, broadcasting data from the flight control system about once per second. That improved frequency “ensures a high level of accuracy” according to the manufacturer, as does the inclusion of Bluetooth 5 for longer transmissions over preceding UAV systems.

Teal 2 drones leaving the assembly line for operation in the USA will now all include Remote ID, with Red Cat offering a pathway for current operators of older models to retrofit theirs for compliance with upcoming regulations. There’s little time left for them to attain compliance, with the FAA requiring all UAS operating within the US airspace system to be so equipped by September 16, 2023.

“I think this really speaks to who we are at Red Cat and what our values are,” said Brendan Stewart, vice president of regulatory affairs at Red Cat. “We view ourselves as an aircraft manufacturer, as opposed to a consumer electronics manufacturer building something that flies. What sets us apart is our ability to look into the future, figure out what the FAA’s goals are in implementing a particular regulation, and then build technology that allows us to not only meet the regulation today, but sets our customers up for long-term success in a changing regulatory environment.”

“Remote ID is another great step forward to safely integrate drones into the national airspace and move the commercial drone industry forward,” said NUAIR CEO Ken Stewart. “NUAIR has conducted multiple validations for other ASTM Standards including sUAS parachute recovery systems and we are happy to see Red Cat receive their certification following our successful validation of their Remote ID solution.”
