Pilot, Passenger Catch Burglars Red Handed

Bad Guys Spotted Stealing Stuff From The Passengers' House During Overflight

How many times has a passenger asked you "can you fly over my house" while out for a lazy weekend cross-county? In the case of Craighead, AR resident Steven Lynn, that innocent question resulted in the apprehension of two men trying to steal his stuff.

Lynn had been out flying with his friend and pilot David Hudson on Friday. They had flown from  Jonesboro Municipal Airport (KJBR) to Memphis, and on the way home, Lynn asked Hudson to fly over his house.

Television station KAIT reports that on the overflight, the two noticed something odd ... two guys loading Lynn's belongings out of his house onto a truck. Lynn called his uncle from the airplane while Hudson circled, and when the uncle arrived, the burglars threw some of the items off the truck and made a dash to escape.

But they couldn't outrun the airplane. Deputy Sheriff Phillip Wheaton said the "eye in the sky" gave his officers turn-by-turn directions as they tracked the truck. Roosevelt Smith III and Joseph Peel, both of Jonesboro, were eventually stopped on a rural highway and arrested.

So what are the odds of flying over ones own house at the precise time it's being burglarized? Slim to none, we imagine, but for Steven Lynn, his first time in an airplane turned out to be a little bit like winning the lottery. Still, he told the TV station he might be a little nervous the NEXT time he goes flying with his friend ... "until I see there's nobody there."
