Investigation Underway In Namibian Airliner Accident

Embraer E190 Down Resulting In 33 Fatal Injuries

The government on Namibia is leading an investigation into an accident which occurred November 29 involving an Embraer E190 regional jet that resulted in the fatal injury of all 33 people on board the aircraft.

The airplane was owned by LAM Mozambique Airlines. Officials for the airline said that the aircraft had undergone scheduled maintenance the day before the accident occurred.

The plane was on a flight form Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, to Luanda, the capital of Angola. It went down in Bwabwata National Park near the border between Botswana and Angola, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The flight's captain had over 9,000 hours in his logbook, while the first officer had recorded 1,418 hours.

In a statement, Embraer said that the aircraft, serial number 581, was delivered to the airline in November 2012. "The Company extends its support to investigating authorities, in pursuit of the causes of the accident," the statement said. "To that end, a team of Embraer technicians is preparing to go to the scene of the accident."
