United's Regional Tent Expanding

Trans States Airlines to Operate as United Express

By the Fall, and for ten more years, Trans States Airlines will be running as many as 25 fifty-seat regional jets under the United Express banner, the result of a deal announced Thursday.

Trans States joins Mesa Air Group Inc., SkyWest Inc. and privately held Air Wisconsin Airlines Corp. in United Express; negotiations with United's other regional partner, Atlantic Coast Airlines, are bogged down for the time being.

United still  needs court permission to go through with the deal, as its parent, UAL, is in Chapter 11; no large roadblocks to the proposed deal are being mentioned, though, by either side.

Trans States worked with United before, but not since the last contracts expired three and a half years ago. The airline already flies as American Connection and US Airways Express.
