Eastern Air Lines Pilot Arrested On Battery Charge

Had Been Chair Of The Florida Law Enforcement Coalition Backing Donald Trump For President

A pilot for Eastern Air Lines and former police officer has been fired by the carrier after being accused of a violent crime.

Vincent Caldara had been chair of a law enforcement coalition in Florida backing Donald Trump's campaign for President. The New York Post relays a report from the U.K. newspaper The Guardian that the 55-year-old Caldara allegedly drove his car at a business associate, causing him severe injuries.

He is also being sought in another incident in which he allegedly drove his motorcycle into a woman, injuring her. Authorities have been unable to locate him, according to the report.

Miami-based Eastern Air Lines provides the campaign plane for Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence, and Caldara had at times flown the plane while Pence was on board. Pence said through his press secretary Marc Lotter that Mr. Caldara " is not a paid employee of the Trump campaign nationally or in the state of Florida.” Eastern Air Lines CEO Ed Wegel said in an emailed statement that “Mr. Caldara is no longer employed by Eastern Air Lines. We wish him well in his future endeavors. Eastern has no further comment on this to respect everyone’s privacy.”
