Air Force Assesses Tornado Damage To Wright-Patterson Housing

Severe Weather Struck The Dayton Area Monday Night

The U.S. Air Force is assessing damage to about 150 off-base homes near Wright-Patterson AFB after tornadoes caused extensive damage in the region Monday night.

The Air Force Times reports that the homes are located in The Prairies at Wright Field. Some suffered significant damage, and some vehicles were damaged as well. Base work crews are moving through the area to clear debris and continue to assess the homes, according to Wright-Patterson spokeswoman Marie Vanover.

Vanover said that security forces, fire personnel and base chaplains are doing a door-to-door canvass of the homes to check on the residents and the condition of the buildings in which they lived. The base is has also established a claims center for military personnel affected by the storms.

The base is also working with the private management company to get help for residents who were displaced due to the damage to their homes, Vanover said.
