Seaplane Pilots’ Model Code of Conduct Released

So... Conduct Yourself Accordingly!

The Seaplane Pilots’ Association has come up with a model Code Of Conduct has been released as a free public service to the seaplane community.

The Code of Conduct presents broad guidance and recommendations for seaplane pilots to improve airmanship, flight safety, and to sustain and improve the seaplane community. The Code of Conduct is a voluntary, ethical code that presents diverse principles within its seven sections:

  • General Responsibilities of Seaplane Aviators
  • Care of Passengers and People near the Seaplane
  • Training and Proficiency
  • Security
  • Environmental Issues
  • Use of Technology
  • Advancement and Promotion of Seaplane Aviation

To further the effective use of the Code of Conduct’s principles, the organization offers what it calls a Sample Recommended Practices guideline -- ways pilots might integrate the principles into their own practices.

"The Seaplane Pilots’Code of Conduct is an unprecedented collection of industry wisdom and advice," said Michael Volk, President of the Seaplane Pilots Association and a member of the Drafting Group. "It picks up where the regulations end, and will be invaluable for teaching socially responsible operating practices to current and future seaplane pilots."
