New OSH2012 Sponsor: Viking Aircraft Engines

Oshkosh 2012 Sponsor: Viking Aircraft Engines

The latest offering form Viking Aircraft Engines is the Honda-based HF-100 sport aviation powerplant.

The product of an experienced engine design team in Florida, the HF-110 engine shares moving parts with the Honda fit automobile, the Honda outboard marine engine and the Honda race engine. The engine has an estimated TBO of 2000 hrs, and powerplant installation kits are either available or being prepared for Jabiru Aircraft, CH-601 XL, CH-601 HD, CH-650, CH-750, CH-701, RV-12, Storch, IBIS MAGIC 700, SeaRey, Sonex, Savannah XL, and the Morgan Aeroworks Cougar.

The fully assembled engine comes with a 40A Alternator, Dual Engine controllers, Exhaust / Muffler, Air intake, K&N Filter, Starter, Radiator, Oil cooler, fuel pumps and an Engine mounting kit for your airplane.

The engine shares its moving parts with the Honda fit automobile, the Honda outboard marine engine and the Honda race engine, but it's not made by Honda. The engine features dual ECUs.  They are built using the latest in surface mount technology and are completely redundant with ECU 1 and ECU 2. The ECU's are housed together and are physically on the same circuit board. Each ECU has its own input sensors and can run the engine. Preflight testing is much like with dual magnetos, where you verify the operation of each system, prior to flight. The system is fully automatic and will compensate for changes in temperature and altitude.

The engine is equipped with a Propeller Speed Reduction Unit.  The unit contains aerospace quality helical gears, designed and manufactured for the Viking Aircraft Engine.  The gear ratio is 2.33/1 and the unit has its own supply of gear oil for lubrication.

The Viking Engine can cost as little as half of the price of a comparable Rotax LSA engine, and is quickly becoming popular in the OEM market for many of the most popular aircraft, gyro and powered parachute companies.

  • Viking offers ECU software update through its website.
