Airborne 09.13.19: Lost Plane Reward!, Hurricane Hunters, EASA v FAA

Also: New K-MAX Order, $514,558 Civil Penalty, Boeing 702X Satellites, JetBlue Foundation

The pilot and owner of a 1945 Grumman TBM Avenger is asking for help locating the airplane he was forced to abandon during a flight last year, and he's willing to pay $20,000 to anyone who finds the airplane.

That's not as easy as it sounds. Ron Carlson, explains... "...I just want to refresh my offer of $20,000 cash to find my still missing 1945 Grumman TBM Avenger. Many of you are probably familiar with the story, but for those who are not, it crashed a year and a half ago after a catastrophic engine failure and fire, in early May of 2018." The Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, aka the Hurricane Hunters, have flown 25 missions, from Aug. 25 to their last, Sept. 6, in support of Hurricane Dorian. Operations began with three WC-130J aircrafts and one C-130J Super Hercules aircraft from the 403rd Wing departing Keesler Air Force Base, Aug. 25, for Curaçao to provide weather reconnaissance support of what was then Tropical Storm Dorian. EASA is apparently, if not arrogantly, unwilling to just go along with the FAA when it comes to recertification of the Boeing 737 MAX. The European aviation regulator said Tuesday that it plans to send its own pilots and engineers to conduct their own test flights before allowing the airliner to resume service in Europe. EASA is also not sold on Boeing's plan to require two Angle of Attack sensors for the MCAS on the airplane, favoring a system that would require agreement of three independent sensors. The move is a major shift in certification reciprocity that has been the norm for years between the FAA and international regulators. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
