HAI2009: Big Deal! L-3 Avionics Awarded $9.2 Million US Army Contract

Will Supply GH-3001 ESIS For Army Chinooks

L-3 Avionics Systems announced Sunday at Heli-Expo 2009 a multi-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the US Army's Redstone Arsenal to supply the GH-3001 Electronic Standby Instrument System (ESIS) to support the sustainment requirements for the Army's CH-47F Improved Cargo Helicopter fleet. The $9.2 million program will run through the first quarter of 2013.

"Our GH systems continue to deliver strong sales numbers thanks to the exceptional safety and reliability they offer to both commercial and military operators," said Larry Riddle, vice president of business development for L-3 Avionics. "Receiving this contract is a critical milestone for the company and streamlines future US Army orders and deliveries."

Standard equipment on the CH-47F, the GH-3001 ESIS is a solid state standby instrument that provides altitude, airspeed, attitude, heading and vertical speed, as well as important GPS, FMS and radio navigation information on a compact, three-inch display. To ease the transition to standby instruments in an emergency, information is laid out in a manner similar to the primary displays and can be customized to better match the appearance of different systems. A single GH-3001 provides enough situational information to navigate an aircraft to safety, even in instrument conditions.

The GH-3001 will be on display at Heli-Expo, booth 2526.

The CH-47F Improved Cargo Helicopter is a tandem-rotor, medium-lift helicopter manufactured by The Boeing Company. It is currently in service in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
