Try To Sit Up Front

Dr. Mark Morrision is happy with his new leather Oregon Aero High-G Safety Seats. It's been a few years since Richard VanGrunsven announced that his new RV-10 Project would use Oregon Aero seats for the front two occupants. Now, 375 RV-10 kits have been sold by Van's Aircraft, and builders are beginning to install them.

Dr. Morrison is a physician and father of four from Chicago. He has built, restored and flown a Beechcraft Staggerwing, a Luscombe, and an RV-8. Morrison says, "Oregon Aero built beautiful leather seats for my new RV-10. Their workmanship, professionalism and safety standards bring these seats up to a level of expertise I have never seen before."

Conventional energy-absorbing seats use seat structures that "stroke" or collapse to pass the FAA-specified 19G lumbar load survivability sled crash test. These stroking designs take up several inches of headroom, but the Oregon Aero seat cushion assembly and seat pan remain intact while passing the test. The occupant is positioned only 2" above the seat-mounting surface, leaving more headroom. The seats can be built taller if needed. The seat works with restraint systems to help protect occupants involved in survivable accidents.

The Oregon Aero High-G Safety Seat took 13 years to develop. As the company designed and manufactured painless, safer seat cushions, they also discovered new ways of thinking about total seat performance, especially in high-energy environments which require crashworthy seats.

Mike Dennis, Oregon Aero founder, president and CEO, says, "We came to understand the physics of the dynamic seat and occupant response. This enabled us to create a system that addresses safety and ergonomic issues by integrating the designs of the seat, cushions, and restraint systems effectively to achieve an overall optimal design."

Van's Aircraft sells the seats to their builders directly, but Oregon Aero can upholster the seats. So far, more than 30 High-G seats have been upholstered. These customers also purchased optional Oregon Aero rear seat cushions for the RV-10 directly from Oregon Aero.
