Aero-TV: Quicksilver Ultralights are Still Flying High

Air-Tech, Inc. Keeps the Classic Line Alive with Full Support and Production

In the half-century since the first generation of Quicksilver aircraft took to the skies, the design has kept the unwavering attention of the experimental and ultralight aviation communities. The Quicksilver product line is now sold and serviced by Air-Tech, Inc. in Reserve, Louisiana.

The original Quicksilver was developed in the 1970s - old enough to feature a bamboo airframe weight-shift controls, and legs for tires. The design evolved into an aluminum-framed aircraft with conventional controls and, over time, the product line grew to include models like the MX Sprint, MXL Sport, MX II Sprint, MXL II Sport, Sport 2S, GT-500, and the limited-run GT-400 Special Edition.

The product line may have changed over time, but the company’s dedication to its past has not. Air-Tech moved the operation to Louisiana just over a decade ago and resumed support for every model Quicksilver has produced.

“Where we are today, we still support every airplane, all the way back to the weight shift airplanes, back from 1979, 1978,” stated Gene ‘Bever’ Borne, Co-Owner of Air-Tech, Inc.

Borne credits the longevity of the company to its past: “It’s kind of unique that we’re still here... things that stay around for a while, they’re built on a good foundation.”
