Ares UAV Would Follow Path Drawn In iOS Device

Company Opens Crowdfunding Campaign To Develop The Aircraft

UAV developer Ares has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new concept that would use an iOS device to pre-plan a route of flight.

"If you can draw, you can fly," the campaign touts.

Operators would simply draw a route of flight on their iPhone or iPad, and then touch the "launch" button on the app. The aircraft would fly the pre-programmed route capturing high-resolution photos and video, depending on the user's preference. The app would then automatically download the content from some models automatically to the device.

The aircraft come in three variants, from a basic model that is GoPro ready to a unit that carries an integrated 4K camera. Prices range from $700 to $1,200.

The app also automatically keeps track of things like no-fly zones and TFRs, and keeps track of the weather. The company says that as regulations evolve, they can simply push out software updates to the app to stay current with new rules and laws.

The Kickstarter campaign will be active until April 24th, and is attempting to raise $50,000. As of this writing, 21 people had pledged just over $6,000.
