Prince Harry Will Stay In The Army, But Not Fly Combat Again

Captain Wales To Continue Working With Injured Troops

Perhaps the best-known pilot in the U.K.'s Army Air Corps says he will no longer fly Apache helicopters in combat.

Prince Harry, who is also known as Captain Wales, recently told military leaders that he wants to continue to work with injured troops before rejoining his parent regiment, the Blues and Royals, next year.

The 30-year-old Prince Harry had taken time to work on arrangements for the Invictus Games, which is an Olympic-style competition for wounded service men and women last year. He was expected to return to flight status after the games were complete.

But the U.K. Daily Mirror reports that a senior military official said that Captain Wales "has plotted his career path and he's not going back to flying Apaches. He has effectively grounded himself."

Prince Harry reportedly "loved" flying the combat helicopters in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, but the source said he reached a decision that "it was no longer viable for him to go back to the Corps and try to climb that [leadership] ladder."
