AIAA Announces Awards To Be Presented At April Conference

Luncheon To Held April 9 In Schaumburg, IL

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) announced this week the following awards to be presented at the 49th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, to be held April 7-10 2008, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL.

Alan Wiechman, Vice President, Advanced Systems, Integrated Defense Systems at The Boeing Company in St. Louis, MO will receive the AIAA Aerospace Design Engineering Award for advancement of aircraft survivability through radar signature reduction, including test range fixture experimental validation of low observable characteristics, and leading low observables integration for demonstrator and operational aircraft. The award is presented to recognize design engineers who have made outstanding technical, educational or creative achievements that exemplify the quality and element of engineering design.

Henry Yang, Chancellor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will receive the AIAA Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Award for sustained contributions to outstanding research, education and service in aerospace structures, structural dynamics and materials, and for pioneering work in shell finite elements, transonic flutter, structural dynamics, and computational materials processing. The award is presented for an outstanding recent technical or scientific contribution in aerospace structures, structural dynamics, or materials.

David Hall, Chief Analyst at SURVICE Engineering Company in Belcamp, MD will receive the AIAA Survivability Award for exceptional contributions as a visionary and leader in the development of integrated survivability assessment, modeling and simulation verification, validation accreditation processes and practices. The award is presented to an individual or a team to recognize outstanding achievement or contribution in design, analysis, implementation and/or education of survivability in an aerospace system.

George Lesieutre, Professor and Head of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania, will receive an AIAA Sustained Service Award for nearly three decades of service to AIAA, to the MIT and Penn State student chapters, to the Orange County, California section, and to the SDM technical community.

Award recipients will be honored during the Tuesday, April 9, awards luncheon.
