Nassau County Police Department To Deploy Airborne Law Enforcement Solution

Helinet Technologies Selected To Integrate Comprehensive, Microwave Downlink System

The Nassau County Police (NY) Department will deploy a comprehensive airborne law enforcement solution for the Department's Aviation Bureau. Developed by Helinet Technologies to meet the specific needs of the Nassau County PD, the new microwave downlink system will enable real-time transmission of HD video and data from the Department's helicopter fleet to ground based command centers and portable receivers used by officers in the field.

In addition to equipping the Department's Bell 407 helicopter and its two new light twin aircraft, Helinet will build out receive capabilities at a fixed command center, two mobile command centers and via two handheld receivers. The company is also deploying three tower receive sites, which will enable uninterrupted, end-to-end coverage across the entire 450 square mile region under the Department's jurisdiction.  To support regional counterterrorism and security efforts, the downlink's multiband design provides full interoperability with the broadcast systems of regional partners.  During fast-moving tactical situations, the Nassau County PD will be able to seamlessly share live video and data, enhancing the ability of multiple agencies to coordinate effective joint actions.

"Helinet's technical know-how and operational expertise in deploying airborne law enforcement solutions for major agencies are unparalleled in the industry," said Detective Lieutenant Kenneth J. Strigaro of the Office of Chief of Department, Nassau County Police Department.  "The company's particular experience in developing the NYPD's airborne broadcast capabilities was also an important factor as it will help ensure seamless communication between both departments during region-wide operations."

The new solution utilizes a custom configuration of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products, optimized to support the Nassau County PD's policing and public safety missions.  Complete signal security will be provided via 256 Bit AES encryption of all audio, video and data traffic.  Helinet will also provide documentation, training and ongoing 24/7 support.

"The Nassau County PD is responsible for securing one of the nation's most populous and high profile regions and we are pleased to have been selected to support them in this mission," said Ron Magocsi, Chief Operating Officer for Helinet Technologies.  "This new solution will assist the Department in their efforts of safeguarding the people of Nassau County and the New York Metro area."
