Vantage is a new flight display system in an upcoming product line from Avidyne. This first product is for the generation of SR20s and SR22s that have the original Avidyne display. It is an upgrade to 12 inch screens and much more powerful processing capability, along with additional system redundancies.
The upgrade will be cost effective, bigger than what it replaces and all hybrid touch. We had the chance to speak with CEO and Founder, Dan Schwinn, about the Vantage flight display systems on the first day of Oshkosh. “We think this will be a very desirable upgrade... and the beginning of a long line of products in the large flight display area for Avidyne,” Schwinn says.
Schwinn mentions that one of the next products in the line will be something for 182s and similar airplanes. They plan to be flexible in their priorities in accordance with their audience feedback.
“We have started a project with a partner company in Switzerland named Daedalean, whose focus is building certifiable AI for aviation. What we are bringing to the party is the familiarity with the certification processes and installations and all the hardware related stuff. They are bringing the background in AI most importantly, the concepts behind how to certify a neural network,” Schwinn continued.
“I would say the biggest interest is not so much from general aviation, but it is from helicopter operators and from advanced air mobility guys who are going to be flying around cities.”
There are a variety of applications for this type of technology that are truly limitless, according to Schwinn. The company has demonstrated landing guidance, for example being able to land via QR code on the runway. It can also be used as a guidance system, or as a hazard avoidance system.
There are many directions to go, and right now Avidyne is focused on getting the tech through the certification authorities to begin the plans for future functionality.
