Aero-Linx!
Scouring the information super airways can sometimes be a tough, if educational, task for the Aero-News staff... but it also allows us to check out some truly neat and exciting sites, so it's not that bad a gig. On any given day, we may check dozens (and often hundreds) of different sources for story ideas, and facts confirmation. And, as is the nature of our business, much of this is done on the Internet.
The ANN gang decided we probably shouldn't keep some of the neat sites, info resources, and organizations we've discovered to ourselves... so we decided to bring you Aero-Linx. These are the sites that WE check out -- when we need added perspective, a new spin on a day's topic... or just want to escape into cyber-aero-space for awhile.
Look for some of our favorite sites, coming each day to ANN via Aero-Linx. Suggestions for future Aero-Linx segments are always welcome, as well.
Aero Linx: Cavanaugh Flight Museum
The Cavanaugh Flight Museum opened in October 1993, the brainchild of its founder, entrepreneur Jim Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh placed his growing collection of historic aircraft in the new museum. From the beginning, what set the Cavanaugh Flight Museum apart from most other aviation museums was the quality of the aircraft collection and the airworthy condition of nearly all of the aircraft on display. Many museum aircraft continue to fly on a regular basis. On any given day, visitors may see aircraft active on the museum's ramp. The museum's maintenance facility allows visitors to look beneath the skin of such famous aircraft as the Sopwith Camel, the P-51 Mustang, or the German Me-109 and to talk with the mechanics who keep these warbirds flying. This is a rare opportunity not found at other aviation museums. In addition, the museum has other facilities for visitors to enjoy: an outdoor picnic area, an air conditioned canteen, a large aviation art gallery and a large gift shop.
