Turtle Beach Revs Up the Flight Sim Market

Yoke with 4-Lever, Push-Throttle Quadrants Shows Increasing Popularity of Flight Simulation

Gaming accessory manufacturer Turtle Beach has unveiled an impressively competitive piece of equipment for flight sim enthusiasts with its VelocityOne Flight Universal Control System, an all-in-one yoke and throttle stack.

The release can be seen as an indicator of the popularity of the flight sim industry, hotter than ever following the 2020 release of Microsoft Flight Sim's (MSFS) latest and greatest iteration. The VelocityOne yoke breaks from the norm in flight sim equipment, bundling a handful of features that are often found across a handful of disparate products and peripherals. The yoke includes a set of 4 throttle levers, a trim wheel, and a trio of push throttle/mixture/prop controls in addition to integrated rudder and brake controls. A built-in flight management display and status indicator round out the center of the yoke, (functional on PC after a MSFS update later this summer) flanked by a handful of buttons and twin hat switches for improved visual orientation. Behind the 180º yoke lie a dozen light-up status indicators, with interchangeable face plates for common aircraft.

The VelocityOne Flight Universal Control is only part of the company's flight sim ecosystem. In recent weeks, Turtle Beach has released a joystick and rudder pedals, too, rounding out the bases to cover the essentials no matter what kind of aircraft is simulated. The VelocityOne Flightstick builds on the market momentum of combat flight simulators as they become more popular than ever, while the VelocityOne Rudder offers realistic pedal feel for light and heavy aircraft.

“VelocityOne is the next step in our commitment to giving flight sim gamers a modern and realistic flight control experience using the latest technologies,” said Juergen Stark, Chairman and CEO of Turtle Beach Corporation at last month's release. “From our booths at the RIAT and Miramar Air Shows to online flight sim groups – the flying community’s early reaction to our new pedals has been overwhelmingly positive. We’re thrilled to be on the leading edge of rebooting what consumers should expect in high-quality flight simulation gaming accessories.”
