Suspected Chico, CA, Airplane Thief Arrested

Flew A Stolen Plane From Paradise, CA, To Chowchilla

A licensed pilot who allegedly stole an airplane in Paradise, CA is under arrest, suspected of also stealing a Chevy Avalanche SUV.

The Chico, CA Enterprise-Record reports that 46-year-old Lonnie Blackburn, a licensed pilot, was found attempting to cover the registration number of the airplane he had just landed with white spray paint. Authorities had noticed that the plane was flying erratically on landing, and went to investigate.

Blackburn allegedly took the airplane from its hangar in Paradise, CA, and flew it to Chowchilla. The registered owner of the plane, Robert Rose, was contacted by Chowchilla police and confirmed that his plane had been stolen.

Blackburn is also accused of stealing a 2007 Chevy Avalanche SRV, which was found hidden in the bushes near the Paradise airport. He allegedly go into the hangar through a hole found in the back wall.
