Universal Avionics Presents New App For FMS Trainer At NBAA 2013

Company Has Developed A New Control Display Unit (CDU) Emulator iPad App For The Flight Management System (FMS) Trainer Software

The iPad app supports life-sized touch-sensitive emulation of Universal Avionics’ 4-inch CDU, 5-inch CDU and Multi-functional CDU. The app sends the FMS Trainer CDU display screen to the iPad, and key pushes from the simulated CDU are then sent back to the FMS Trainer via a wireless network. Designed specifically for use with Universal Avionics’ FMS Trainer, the CDU emulator app allows operators to experience a realistic, hands-on training in FMS operations.

“Previously, our customers had to use a mouse to operate our FMS Trainer software,” said Robert LaBerge, Universal Avionics’ Customer Training Manager. “Customers desiring a true hands-on training experience had to use expensive aircraft hardware,” he added. “The iPad app solves this issue beautifully, allowing customers to achieve a low-cost, realistic solution for hands-on FMS training.”

Universal Avionics’ FMS Trainer software provides interactive training for the company’s FMSs, including the current line of Satellite-Based Augmentation System capable FMSs. The software simulates a full flight guidance system for effective training in all flight regimes, depicting generic Electronic Flight Information Systems, Primary Flight Display and Navigation Display.
