Suspension Of Certificate To Continue While Case Remains
Unresolved
A scheduled Federal Court directions
hearing on the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority's
(CASA) application to continue the suspension of Tiger Airways
Australia Pty Ltd has been adjourned for a fifth time. A
directions hearing was held on Friday, which was adjourned with no
resolution of the matter until Thursday, August 11th 2011. The
suspension continues while the matter is adjourned.
CASA applied to the Federal Court on July 7, 2011 to continue
the suspension of Tiger Airways. This was to allow the completion
of investigations into serious safety issues identified within
Tiger Airways' operations. CASA's investigations have been
completed and a set of proposed conditions to be imposed on Tiger
Airway’s air operator's certificate have been served on the
airline.
A number of conditions must be met before CASA
can be satisfied it is safe to allow Tiger Airways to resume
operations. Tiger Airways has been progressively providing CASA
with the evidence necessary to demonstrate how it will meet the
conditions. CASA is assessing this documentation as it is provided
by Tiger Airways.
CASA has identified deficiencies in some of the documentation
provided by Tiger Airways. Tiger has resubmitted some documentation
and CASA is awaiting receipt of other documentation and information
before it can complete its assessment. CASA says this will
necessarily take some more time. Progress is essentially dependent
on Tiger providing complete, correct and up-to-date documentation
to CASA.
CASA is working to finalize these matters as quickly as
possible, while ensuring all safety requirements are met.
